SATURDAY OCTOBER 12, 2019

HELLO NEIGHBOR: Community Pride Parade

The HELLO NEIGHBOR website: https://helloneighborsav.com

This project is intended to bridge gaps between each of us and our neighbors by providing a space that everyone in the community can participate, while encouraging the least represented to take front stage. Although everyone is encouraged to participate a special invitation is extended to include women’s, minority, immigrant, multi-cultural, LGBTQ groups or individuals. The idea is to see and give voice to everyone while promoting social, political and economic equality locally and globally.

Workshops and Planning

Workshops will be provided at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center and upon request and  for  groups, or individuals interested in  creating T-shirts, LED Lanterns, or Mural Painting.

Event:

Parade participants will be able to create any theme they choose, street clothes, Hello Neighbor t-shirts made onsite (bring your own shirt), light sculptures, wearable art, puppets, and handheld floats, etc. to create exciting designs.

In addition to the “Parade” there will be activities designed to bring people together and create community during the month of September at the Savannah Cultural Arts Center.

Some of these will be an on-site Screen-Printing booth, where anyone can bring a shirt to have “Hello Neighbor, my name is______________” screen printed on it for free. There will also be a limited amount pre-printed prints available for sale for anyone who would like to purchase them. Shirts may also include the city district.

Additionally there will be LED lantern  and Wearable Art workshops and online tutorials for anyone interested in creating custom LED lanterns to carry in the parade.

Community tree: Using a map of the city and surrounding areas (designed like a tree) individuals will be able to write their name on the tree to mark themselves as a member of the community.

Parade:

We will then take it to the streets/park with one trip around Forsyth in our Hello Neighbor: Community Pride Parade from 7 - 9  pm

Finally at the end of the Parade will be a brief moment for one or two speakers to speak to the importance of personal empowerment, followed  by music and vendors.
